With a wine history going back 3,000 years, Spain is one of the world's great wine regions.  From Galicia in the far northwest to mountainous Rioja and fertile Catalonia in the east, the vast central highlands and the sunny Valencian coast, Spain has more acreage under  vine than any other nation on earth.  

Spain also has roaringly complex geology. Like much of the European continent, it bears the scars and bruises of aeons of tectonic movements, volcanism, accretion of new terranes onto the former margins of older blocks, and more. Overlay this geology with topography, wind patterns, climate, rainfall, and more, and you get an unparalelled diversity of terroir.
